Military Drone Concept: Air Drone Ambulance

Hello All,

Whilst doing a cursory search online in trying to prepare for this blog entry. I found numerous mentions of best guesses of a futuristic autonomous battlefield medical extraction vehicles (units).

So with the above mentioned I'll toss out my concept for public consumption. Which is a futuristic aerial drone that is capable of vertical take-off and landing operations. Similar to the British or U.S. Marine "Harrier Jump Jet", but in the guise of an autonomous aerial drone. Such a drone can be remote control operated as like all contemporary aerial military drones are today. Or in the future when a truly A.I. (artificial intelligence) self-controlled aerial drone is possible, it'll fly itself.

The aerial drone air ambulance I'm picturing in my mind has the capacity of only one individual wounded solider. Upon an aerial vertical landing sortie, it will lower a cargo ramp. Where a futuristic combat medical ICU (intensive care unit) module / chamber. Rolls down the ramp either remote-controlled operator or autonomous to "scoop up" the wounded solider. Once inside such a module chamber telemedicine battlefield assessments are made of the health status of the trauma patient.

Then in reverse, once the combat medical trauma chamber is sealed with its patient inside. It'll navigates itself like a robotic rover through and around any obstacle(s) to the aerial drone ambulance.

Now that the aerial drone ambulance performs its vertical take off from a remote area. It'll have access to "sunburst" defensive flares just in case a missile is fired at it during flight. An additional layer of protection could be an exterior stealth fuselage / chassis. To fly undetected of any nearby SAM (surface to air missile) installations in the "Hot Zone".

Of course such a vertical take off and landing aerial drone can be repurposed for cargo delivery missions in remote areas. Where instead of a combat medical ICU unit rolling down the cargo ramp. A robotic A.I. controlled cargo pallet rolls down the ramp of the aerial drone.

Another option of such an operational configuration of a vertical take off aerial drone. Is instead of an air ambulance it can be used as an individual prisoner transport vehicle. Where the combat medical ICU module is replaced with a prisoner restraint autonomous chamber.

In either case, if such a vertical aerial drone is in jeopardy of crashing. Due to hostile fire, weather related incident, or mechanical failure, it's payload can be jettisoned. Where either the combat medical ICU module, prisoner restraint chamber, or a cargo pallet can parachute down to safety. Where a distress transponder is set off signaling a retrieval squad unit for extraction of said module.

This is what I envision as a possible military aerial drone of tomorrow. In regards to: trauma patient rescue, prisoner transfer, & cargo operations in remote areas. Where it's difficult to land a helicopter or any other contemporary aircraft out in the field.
